Clipdrop
AI image editing suite with one-click background removal, cleanup, upscaling, and text-to-image generation.
Pick Clipdrop if you need a fast, no-friction web toolkit for product photos, social assets, or simple AI cleanups without opening a full editor.
Skip it if you want layered, non-destructive editing, cutting-edge generative models, or full creative control over prompts and parameters.
Clipdrop is a browser-based AI image editing toolkit bundling roughly nine focused utilities: background removal, object/text cleanup, 2x/4x upscaling, background replacement, uncropping, universal social-media resizing, relighting, and text-to-image generation. Each tool is a single-purpose web app with a deliberately minimal UI, designed to do one job in a few seconds rather than replace Photoshop. There is also an API for developers and bulk workflows.
It was founded in 2020 by ex-Google engineers (Cyril Diagne and team), acquired by Stability AI in early 2023, then transferred to Jasper.ai in February 2024. That lineage explains the surprisingly strong text-to-image and cleanup quality, both of which were powered by Stable Diffusion derivatives. Pricing is freemium: most tools have a free web tier with watermarks or limits, and a Pro subscription unlocks higher resolution, batch use, and full API access. It is aimed at marketers, e-commerce sellers, and social media creators who need fast, repeatable image edits without learning a full editor.
The Pro plan and API make it viable for product photo pipelines (Shopify-style background swaps, listing cleanup) and for embedding edits inside other apps. Caveats: it is no longer a Stability flagship, the underlying generators are not always the newest models, and some tools overlap with what Photoshop's Generative Fill or Canva now do natively.
Clipdrop is the rare AI tool that feels designed rather than thrown together, with each utility doing one thing very well. Its ownership shuffle from Stability to Jasper has slowed model updates, but for marketers and Shopify operators it is still one of the cleanest ways to batch through image chores. The API is the underrated piece.
