Magnific is a generative image upscaler and enhancer built by Javi Lopez and Emilio Nicolas, acquired by Freepik in 2024 and rebranded as Freepik's flagship AI creative platform in 2026. Unlike traditional upscalers that just interpolate pixels, Magnific runs a prompt-guided diffusion pass that invents skin pores, fabric weave, hair strands, and architectural texture, taking outputs from Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, or low-res source files up to 16x while keeping composition intact. The suite now covers Creative Upscaler, Precision Upscaler (2x, photographer-faithful), Relight (re-light any image with prompts or HDRIs), Style Transfer, and the Mystic image generator.

It's aimed at concept artists, 3D and product designers, illustrators, and architectural visualisation studios who need print-ready hero images from AI drafts, and it has earned a reputation as the highest-quality option in its category. Pricing is steep and there is no free tier on the legacy plans: Pro is $39/mo (~500 credits), Premium $99/mo, and Business $299/mo, with API access billed separately through Freepik (Relight is ~€0.10 per call). The same models are also bundled into cheaper Freepik subscriptions from $5.75/mo for casual users.

The creativity slider is the killer feature and the main hazard: turn it up and faces, signage, and fine geometry can drift from the source, which is why the Precision mode exists.
