Best for

Curious general users and researchers who want AI-synthesized answers, community discussion, and classical web results in one place rather than juggling Google, Reddit, and a chatbot.

Developers who need a search API, power users who require Google-scale index depth, or enterprises that need SLAs, audit logs, and model transparency for AI answers.

Findborg positions itself as a 'Find Engine' rather than a conventional search engine, blending three knowledge sources into a single results surface: the open web, a moderated human community called The Hive, and an AI research layer called Borg. The consumer experience feels familiar — verticals for web, videos, news, images, shopping, podcasts (Pong), and local maps — but each query can be escalated to Borg (currently in beta) for deep-research answers that synthesize sources rather than returning a ranked list of blue links. A companion feature called TalkTags lets communities discuss and annotate topics, and a trust system called Verity weights listings by organic engagement so that free listings with genuine community traction can outrank paid ones. It is aimed at general web users who are tired of SEO-gamed search results and want a hybrid of Google-style discovery, Reddit-style community signal, and Perplexity-style AI answers in one place. Common workflows include running a normal keyword search and pivoting into Ask Borg for a synthesized breakdown, browsing HiveCommunity threads on a topic to see what real people say, and using the vertical tabs (news, video, shopping, local) for classical discovery. Findborg Inc. is based in Hernando Beach, Florida; the current entity succeeded the earlier Findborg, LLC (dissolved 2024), and the platform is still in an active build-out phase with Borg labelled beta. The pitch — 'not a chatbot bolted on' — is that the AI is a first-class citizen of the index rather than a wrapper over Bing or Google.

Editor's take

Findborg is an interesting third path between classical search and Perplexity-style answer engines, and the Verity 'paid placement doesn't buy ranking' stance is refreshing. It's early — Borg is beta, the Hive is thin, and coverage will not rival Google — but as a secondary lens on a topic (especially opinion-heavy ones) it's worth bookmarking. Not yet a daily driver.

Pros

  • Combines web search, community discussion, and AI synthesis in a single UI instead of forcing users to bounce between Google, Reddit, and ChatGPT
  • Verity trust system explicitly separates paid placement from ranking, which is a rare stance for an ad-supported search product
  • Multiple discovery verticals out of the box (news, video, images, shopping, podcasts, local maps)
  • Free to use for end-users with no account gate on core search
  • TalkTags community layer gives topics a persistent discussion surface, useful for opinion-heavy queries
  • Ask Borg deep-research mode is a genuine alternative to standard SERPs for research-style questions

Cons

  • ⚠️ Index coverage and freshness are unproven against Google, Bing, or Kagi — expect gaps on long-tail queries
  • ⚠️ Borg AI answers are labelled beta and the underlying model family is not disclosed, so quality and hallucination behavior are hard to audit
  • ⚠️ Community layer (The Hive) is small compared to established alternatives like Reddit or Stack Exchange, limiting signal on niche topics
  • ⚠️ No public developer API or SDK surface, so it cannot be embedded into other tools or workflows
  • ⚠️ Company is small and relatively new (successor to a 2024-dissolved LLC), which is a real longevity risk for anyone tempted to make it a default search engine
